What is a glow-up?

Think of a “glow up” like a personal makeover where someone undergoes positive changes in their physical health, emotional and mental health, and overall attitude. They are working toward becoming the best version of themselves. What’s not to love?!

While some may think of a glow-up as positive changes in physical appearance (a new hairstyle, weight loss, or better skin), a glow-up is really about transforming and improving oneself on the inside AND the outside.

This glow-up challenge is all about personal growth and creating new habits in your daily routine that will result in a more healthy, confident version of YOU!

Glow up challenge list

You can download the entire 7 & 30-day challenge lists HERE, but here are a few of the highlights:

1 . Physical activity

One of the best ways to glow up physically AND mentally is by adding or increasing physical activity. This doesn’t have to mean going to the gym. There are plenty of ways to get moving! Just getting outside and getting some fresh air, taking a long walk, or doing a home workout on YouTube are all great!

Hint: I LOVE Chloe Ting’s workouts on YouTube!!

2. Get your beauty sleep

Yes, “they” (professionals) say eight hours of sleep is ideal, but I am all about what works for individuals. It might be impossible to get a full eight hours, but a great place to start is by going to bed a 1/2 hour earlier.

Getting enough sleep can really positively affect our energy levels so start slow, then work your way up to that eight-hour “goal.”

3. Start or try a new skincare routine

A great way to get a nice physical “glow” is changing up your skincare routine…or starting one! It doesn’t have to be elaborate–just find the right products that work with your skin type.

Most important (linking my faves!): 1) A good gentle cleanser 2) Day and night moisturizer 3) Eye cream

4. Take a social media fast

Although it might be out of your comfort zone, taking a week or more social media break can really help with your focus and prevent excessive negative thoughts.

Although I love social media for certain things, I can also spend way too much time on it. I’ve found when I take a break (even a day or two!), I feel so much more focused.

5. Drink enough water!!!

It’s surprising how much your daily water intake can affect how you feel. Drinking enough water may also help with dry skin.

The vast majority of us don’t drink enough water. They used to say 8 glasses a day, but the amount you need really varies from person to person. The best way to calculate your ideal water intake is:

Half of your body weight in ounces

Example: If someone weighs 160 lbs., they would need to drink 80 ounces of water per day.

Pro tip: Having a large, cute water bottle really helps! Just sayin’.

6. Write a to-do list in the evening

An organized mind can transform how you feel! All of us have a super busy schedule, but taking five minutes to write a quick list of things you need to do the next day, can work wonders!

Just starting off your day knowing exactly what you need to get accomplished can be life-changing. Sure, the day may go completely sideways, but starting out on the right foot will at least set you up for success.

7. Prep nutritious foods or a healthy snack

Meal prepping is one of the main ways to help us stay on track with healthy eating. Although prepping ALL of your meals and lunches might not be realistic, just prepping healthy snacks or doing weekly meal planning can definitely help reduce your junk food intake and eat more nutritious meals 🙂

8. Get dressed!!!

If you work from home or take care of kids all day, getting dressed “for real” might not be a thing…but it SHOULD BE! This DOES NOT mean anything fancy!!

But putting on clothes that fit well and that you feel good in, is one of the most important things you can do for your glow-up! Baggy sweats and hoodies are comfy, but you can also be comfy in nice-fitting joggers and a sweatshirt that isn’t oversized.

A good tinted moisturizer and a swipe of lip gloss can also give a big boost to how you look and feel. Learn to create a simple, casual capsule wardrobe.

9. Wear sunscreen every single day

If this is not already on your self-care to-do list, ADD IT!!! Wearing sunscreen is the simplest thing you can do for yourself to glow up in the long run!

The sun is the biggest culprit of wrinkles and fine lines, so if you can help prevent this by wearing sunscreen–sign me up!!!

My skin is super sensitive which held me back from wearing sunscreen for years until I finally found a sunscreen that worked for me! If you have sensitive skin, try Beauty of Josean (a Korean brand) or Elta MD. Those have both worked wonders on my skin and don’t make me break out.

10. Limit caffeine and alcohol

If you’re a coffee addict, I get it. No need to go overboard and cut it completely and make new enemies! HA! But perhaps try one less cup per day. Or limiting alcohol to 1 day a week vs. 3. Just LITTLE changes like this can make a huge impact.

Heck yes! If you are CONSISTENT in your glow-up “tasks” there is no doubt you will see positive changes in all areas of your life!
